Grotta della Pipa

The Grotta della Pipa (Cave of the Pipe) is located near Scalo Maestro, on the north side of the island. It is so called because of the conformation of the rock, which is shaped like a pipe. The cave continues for about 100 metres and ends in a small room with a natural pool of fresh water. It is probably the presence of fresh water that has meant that this place has been inhabited since ancient times. As evidenced by the remains of amphorae, wineskins, plates and oil lamps found at its bottom.
