The Museum of the Sea

The Museum of the Sea, Activities, Maritime Traditions and Emigration is a small museum managed by the CSRT Association "Marettimo". The museum, whose purpose is to preserve the ethno-anthropological heritage of the island, exhibits beautiful vintage photographs, books, historical documentation and fishing gear that tell this art. In this place is also preserved the history of the many fishermen of the island emigrated at the end of the 800 and the early 900 in Portugal, North Africa and America. Especially the western coasts of North America were the subject of settlements of tidal communities fishing for sardines and salmon.
