Grotta della Bombarda
The Bombarda cave is located on the western side of the island of Marettimo. It owes its name to the characteristic 'blowing' that is created during sea storms inside a small fissure on the lower right and connected to the outside. Here a mixture of air and water is blown at high pressure into the hole, generating a bomb-like roar. If you get to the bottom of the cave look up you can admire 'a mitra ru Papa', a stalagmite shaped like the headgear used by the Pope.
